  • D01: Baha’i Faith

Four Characteristics of the Baha'i Faith Lifeway:

D01 Baha'i Faith

Monotheistic religion emphasizes the unity of all religions, peace, and the oneness of humanity.

The Baha'i Faith in the United States represents a small but diverse religious community that is part of the global Baha'i Faith, a monotheistic religion founded in the 19th century by Baha'u'llah in Persia (modern-day Iran). The Baha'i Faith centers on the belief in the unity of God, the oneness of all religions, and the essential unity of humanity. In the United States, Baha'is come from a wide range of backgrounds and ethnicities, and their religious teachings emphasize the principles of unity, justice, and the elimination of prejudice.

Advocating for Racial Equality and Social Justice

Baha'i communities in the United States are characterized by their commitment to racial and ethnic diversity, reflecting the Baha'i teachings on the elimination of racial prejudice. The Baha'i Faith has a long history of advocating for racial equality and social justice, which aligns with broader American civil rights movements. Baha'is actively engage in efforts to promote racial harmony and social cohesion in their communities.

Worship and Community Life

Baha'i worship and community life often revolve around devotional gatherings, study circles, and activities that promote spiritual growth and social action. These activities encourage reflection on the Baha'i teachings, prayer, and the application of spiritual principles to daily life. Baha'i temples, known as Houses of Worship or Mashriqu'l-Adhkar, exist in various parts of the world, although there is currently one in the United States, in Wilmette, Illinois. Local Baha’i prayer gatherings are located in communities across the country.

Educational Initiatives

The Baha'i Faith places a strong emphasis on education, and Baha'is are actively involved in educational initiatives at both local and national levels. Baha'i-inspired educational programs aim to promote moral and ethical values, develop character, and empower individuals to contribute to the betterment of society.

Establishing a Peaceful World Order

Baha'is believe in the importance of working towards the establishment of a just and peaceful world order. They are guided by the teachings of Baha'u'llah, which call for the elimination of all forms of prejudice, the advancement of the equality of men and women, and the establishment of global institutions to address the world's challenges.

Summary

In summary, the Baha'i Faith in the United States is a small but diverse religious community that places a strong emphasis on unity, racial harmony, and social justice. Baha'is actively engage in efforts to promote these principles in their communities and contribute to the betterment of society, in alignment with the teachings of Baha'u'llah.
